What is Flyknit 2022?
Flyknit technology has revolutionized the way we think about sports shoes!
But what kind of material is Flyknit? In this post we want to illustrate its features, so keep reading if you want to know all the curiosities!
- It must be said that before the Flyknit entered the scene, the uppers of the shoes were always made in the same way, that is with inserts of different materials sewn together. This method results in a great waste of material and is limiting when designing a shoe.
- But with the Flyknit we are talking about a seamless upper that can be tailored – reducing waste by about 60% – and that adapts perfectly to the shape of the foot while ensuring ideal support.
Nike was the first to invest resources and people to create a new material, the main purpose of which was to give the wearer lightness and a greater grip on the foot. This was a very long process for the design team that began in the 1980s with the Sock Racer, which is the sock-like upper. The problem with this type of structure was that, while it was light and breathable, it did not provide adequate stability.
What prompted her to start this ambitious project that initially was the desire on the part of runners, a shoe that adhered like a sock but was also stable.
The turning point came in 2008 when Flyknit technology was finally developed, made of an upper in light, resistant and flexible filaments that gave Nike the possibility to create new sneakers.
Over the next 4 years, Nike worked tirelessly on the construction of the first prototype in Flyknit, arriving at a definitive version of 2012.
Today their technology is available to a good slice of sneakers, which are especially popular among young people. But no one at the time thought that this fantastic material would change the way sports shoes are made.
